May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

At KIMIKO, we provide comprehensive skin cancer care, including biopsies, MOH-style excisions, and all types of reconstructions. Dr. John Tedesco, one of KIMIKO's owners, our Medical Director, and triple board-certified surgeon, recommends a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Sunscreen helps reduce the risk of cancer, and as Dr. Tedesco explains, "we do know sunscreen use helps prevent sunburn, and we know sunburn is one of the main predictors of all types of skin cancer."

Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, over the past 30 years, more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined. With the intense, long summers in Green Country, we are at high risk for skin cancer. Putting sunblock on our faces in the mornings is excellent, but we need to make sure we apply and reapply enough. If you have questions or concerns or want more information about KIMIKO, please give us a call at 918-394-2796.
